Did you know...

  • More than 67 million Americans have high blood pressure

  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke in both men AND women

  • Compared to those with normal blood pressure

    • People with high blood pressure are 4x more likely to die from a stroke and 3x more likely to die from heart disease

High blood pressure often shows no signs or symptoms, which is why having your blood pressure checked regularly is important.

Understanding your blood pressure - What do the numbers mean?

When you have your blood pressure taken, you are told 2 numbers like 120/80. Both numbers are important. The first number is your pressure when your heart beats (systolic pressure). The second number is your pressure when your heart relaxes (diastolic pressure).

Blood pressure usually ranges between 90 to 250 for the top or maximum number (systolic) and 60 to 140 for the bottom or minimum number (diastolic). A healthy blood pressure is 120/80 or less, but normally the lower you can get it, the better.
